A 30 watt discrepancy at threshhold is very darn noticeable. I did the first two intervals using InRide's power readings, so it is EASIER than what I did in the latter two intervals, when I was doing my best to meet the target power from Powertap. I ran the InRide calibration at minute 10.5 or so, before the intervals graphed below. My Powertap, as always calibrated at 501ish (503 today).

This workout was at 100psi 23 road tire, 4 full rotations of tension screw. Unfortunately, when your FTP is in that speed wattage range, it messes up your work. In between, InRide shows faster speeds, and power 20-30W higher. Then, at almost exactly 21 mph/~300W, they seem to resync. As I've said (see TR forum), around 19.2 mph/225W, my InRide and my Powertap diverge, both in speed and power. "I did another workout today (1/10) that focuses on the power ranges that aren't tracking on my InRide v2 (above about 225 W, below 300 W). It's worth noting that Nate at TR is planning quite a TR megatest on InRide with results to be posted in days! The text below is copied and edited for clarity from the Trainerroad Help Center. "What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind and body can achieve and those who stay will be champions." And it just isn't as easy for monitoring output in an interval.

I can't track TSS or IF because the virtual power numbers are so far off from the Inride. My work around has been to use TR set on virtual power and then use the Kinetic Inride app for monitoring power, but it's annoying.

It seems TR doesn't have the workforce to responsively keep up with all the different software platforms folks use. I would use the iPhone app, but I changed to the InRide 2, following the suggestion of TR on their FB page, only to find out that the iPhone app doesn't support InRide 2 yet.

I understand they are planning a release of a new Mac Beta for InRide 2.0, but it doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. I emailed support, but never got a response. Then I updated the OS again, forgetting that it broke The inRide with TR, and lost the ability to use it.

After much back and forth with TR, I never got a satisfactory answer on The reason for the change and just gave up, happy that I at least had a repeatable method for using power and TR. As in, I could no longer hit my power numbers for a given speed. The frustrating part was that my FTP mysteriously "dropped" between 30-40 watts with the beta. The first time this happened, TR gave me a beta I was eventually able to get to work (after many hours of trying). Long explanation: Unfortunately the last two times I upgraded Mac OS, it has broken the ability to sync with Trainer Road. The kinetic app is available, but I don't care for the interface or the available workouts. If you want to use with Trainer Road, be wary. The short is - when it works it is great. I wanted to use it with Trainer Road, because 1) the spin down feature gets rid of variability in trainer/bike setup from ride to ride that could mess with repeatability of virtual power, and 2) the reported accuracy of it by DC Rainmaker would enable direct comparison with other cyclists. Had the first unit, and recently started using the 2.0 unit. I have been using it for over a year now.
